This privacy policy will explain how I and any necessary third-party services use the personal data collected from you when you use my website.

This website uses Umami for analytics. It runs on my own server at analyse.nyxnord.de, so no analytics company is involved. It collects:
time of access, what page you read, your operating system, your browser, the referer, from what country you're accessing this site, and how long you are visiting.
On top of that, a few actions are counted so I can see which features are used: switching the theme or language, enlarging a propagation map, opening the data sources, following a link to another website, and in the logbook logging, deleting, importing, exporting or deleting all QSOs and switching the country lookup on or off.
Only the fact that such an action happened is counted. What you type stays in your browser, no call sign and nothing else from your log is ever sent to me. The one thing that leaves your browser is the call sign you are logging, and only to hamqth.com to look up its country, as described under third-party services.
This data is anonymized and no personal information is collected. No cookies are used.
Some pages save things in your browser's local storage so they are still there on your next visit. This never leaves your device and I cannot read it:
your choice of light or dark mode, every QSO you enter in the logbook, whether the country lookup there is switched on, and the countries already looked up, so the same call sign is not requested twice.
The logbook and the looked up countries can be emptied at any time with its "Delete all" button, and you can delete all of it by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
This website is hosted by GitHub Pages, so their Privacy Policy applies. The stylesheet and the shared script are loaded from leonbruns.de, my main website, which is hosted there as well.
Whenever a request goes to one of the services below, your browser makes it directly, so that service sees your IP address, your browser and what you requested.
The solar-terrestrial banner is loaded from hamqsl.com, run by Paul L Herrman (N0NBH). A request is made by your browser to their server every time the start page is opened.
The ionospheric maps are loaded from prop.kc2g.com, run by Andrew Rodland (KC2G). A request is made by your browser to their server every time the start page is opened.
When you log a QSO, the logbook asks the DXCC search of hamqth.com, run by Petr Hlozek (OK2CQR), which country a call sign belongs to. Only that call sign is sent.
To place a station more precisely than its call area, the same call sign is then asked of hamdb.org, which answers with a locator for the call signs it holds, mostly from the US register.
The checkbox under the logbook form switches these requests off.
The map under the log is drawn with Leaflet, which is loaded from leonbruns.de together with the stylesheet.
Its map tiles are loaded from OpenStreetMap, run by the OpenStreetMap Foundation.
Some of the services above are based outside the European Union. When your browser contacts them, your IP address and the request are transferred to that country.
GitHub is based in the United States, hamqsl.com and prop.kc2g.com are operated by radio amateurs there, and hamdb.org is a US service delivered through Cloudflare. The OpenStreetMap Foundation is based in the United Kingdom, for which the European Commission has issued an adequacy decision. Where a provider is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, the transfer relies on the adequacy decision of the European Commission. Otherwise, it relies on the standard contractual clauses used by that provider, or on Art. 49 (1) (b) GDPR, because the request is necessary to deliver the feature you opened the page for.
The analytics run on my own server at analyse.nyxnord.de, so nothing is passed on to an analytics company there.
The legal basis is my legitimate interest under Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR in running this website and understanding roughly how it is used. The third-party services above are needed to deliver the radio weather. The country lookup and the map that is drawn from it happen because you asked for them by logging a QSO with the checkbox switched on, and they stop as soon as you switch it off.
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability. Since the analytics data is anonymized, I usually cannot link any of it back to you, which means I may not be able to answer a request about it.
Because the analytics are based on my legitimate interest, you can object to them at any time under Art. 21 GDPR, without giving a reason.
The quickest way is to switch on "Do Not Track" in your browser: the analytics script is set to respect it and then records nothing at all. Blocking analyse.nyxnord.de with a content blocker works just as well.
